Every influencer seems to have one of these gorgeous blankets draped on their couch. I keep seeing them all over my FYP. Eventually I caved… I had to know if they were worth the hype. But this wasn’t just an impulse buy: it was an investigation.

I put 5 viral blanket brands to the test: Minky Couture, Sferra, Baloo, Comfrt, and Lola. I compared each blanket based on texture, weight & warmth, visual elegance, and material & care.

The results surprised me, but I took plenty of notes for you.

Read below to get the 411!

Texture

The whole point of a blanket is to be super soft and cozy. For a blanket to go this viral, I expect it to feel unreal. Here’s how each one compared:

Minky Couture: You know that involuntary sigh you make when you touch something unbelievably soft? Minky makes me do it every single time. They make their own custom fabrics to have the highest possible thread count, and I can feel the difference.

Sferra: This is a classic 100% brushed cotton blanket. The high-quality natural fibers make the fabric feel luxurious and soft. It’s a different texture than Minky: soft and fluffy, but not thick and furry.

Baloo: Famous for their weighted blankets, Baloo features sleek fabrics. They’re 100% cotton and feel smooth. But the softness isn’t a standout.

Comfrt: This fabric has a similar “faux-fur” style to Minky’s, but it does have noticeably fewer fibers. I would consider this a decent dupe of Minky Couture but it doesn’t have the same luxury plushness. It’s a great option if budget is your main concern.

Lola: Minky is the original ultra-soft throw, but Lola is a great imitation. Comparing them side-by-side, I consider Minky’s texture to be softer and smoother, while Lola’s texture is a bit heavier. They were the most similar, but Minky is definitely my preference.

My Winner for Texture: Minky Couture

Weight & Warmth

Best Sheets 2026

I reach for a blanket to feel cocooned and cozy. So I gave a higher rank to the brands that have solid, quality weight. This is what each one felt like:

Minky Couture: Thanks to the proprietary fabric and texture (Minky actually invented the ripple effect that I adore), this blanket hugs me in every perfect way. The long fibers are perfect for warming me up quickly.

Sferra: While the cotton is high-quality and sturdy, this is not a “heavy” blanket. It feels good to wrap up in if I’m already feeling warm.

Baloo: If you’re looking for a true weighted blanket, Baloo is my recommendation. It has glass beads quilted in, designed to help relieve stress and anxiety. I love this blanket when I’m having trouble sleeping or unwinding.

Comfrt: Comfrt offers weighted blankets in a breathable knit pattern, but I only tried the faux-fur throw. Again, the fur throw is a decent budget-friendly option that will feel like an upgrade from department store blankets.

Lola: Like I mentioned before, Lola’s fabric feels a bit heavier than Minky’s, while Minky feels more silky. But the difference in weight was not significant to me, especially when I’m not looking for a “weighted blanket.”

My Winner for Weight & Warmth: Baloo

Visual Elegance

Everyone’s style is different. But some blankets are made with interior design in mind, and some are made to sit in your closet until you need them. I love blankets that I can leave tossed on my couch and it still looks put together.

Minky Couture: Rich colors, effortless ruching, and visually luxurious fabric make Minky Couture blankets statement pieces in any room. I bought a deep blue color to go with my couch, and it actually looks better when I leave it casually draped. The only issue with leaving it out is I’m constantly tempted to drop everything and curl up.

Sferra: This blanket delivers sleek, classic Italian design. The brushed cotton looks sophisticated whether draped or folded.

Baloo: This is a well-constructed blanket, but I don’t personally use it for decor. I like it most for its science-backed calming effect. However, it’s usually folded in my closet.

Comfrt: This is in-between for me. While I don’t think it elevates the look of my living room or bedroom, it looks more polished than a cheap department store blanket.

Lola: These blankets have the same gathered texture as Minky Couture, and I think it’s such a chic pattern. However, while Minky has lots of different styles and colors, Lola has only the ruched style. I think Minky Couture is better for picking the exact style to match your aesthetic.

My Winner for Visual Elegance: Minky Couture

Material & Care

Best Sheets 2026

Okay, so the blanket feels amazing right out of the box, but after a wash or two, does it disintegrate? If I’m investing in a luxury blanket, I need it to last. Here’s how each brand held up:

Minky Couture: Washing Minky blankets is super easy, but they have to be air-dried. I was worried the delicious texture would get crunchy or shed, but it feels as soft as ever. In fact, I’ve had my Minky blanket for years, and it feels just as soft as day 1. (Minky blankets are also hypoallergenic!)

Sferra: Since Sferra uses 100% cotton, I could throw it in the wash on cold and tumble dry on low. Easy-peasy!

Baloo: Like Sferra, Baloo blankets are made of 100% cotton, and the glass bead interior is perfectly safe for the washer/dryer.

Comfrt: The dream blanket is fine to throw in the wash, but can’t be in the dryer. I also saw that their weighted blanket can only be spot-cleaned, which would make care more difficult. Between my kids and pets, I need to be able to wash everything!

Lola: You may be noticing a trend: Lola blankets are fine to machine wash cold, but must be air-dried. I haven’t had my Lola blanket as long as I have had Minky Couture, but it seems to be holding up well.

My Winner for Material & Care: Minky Couture (for furry texture) or Sferra (for cotton texture)

Conclusion

Best Sheets 2026

Each brand definitely has its pros, and my opinion might not account for your needs and preferences. Here’s what I loved about the runner-ups:

  • Sferra: The softest natural fibers and quality Italian craftsmanship.
  • Baloo: Best for science-backed stress and anxiety relief.
  • Comfrt: Best budget option for a luxury-feeling blanket that won’t break the bank
  • Lola: Most viral/recognizable brand.

However, Minky Couture is the brand that I fell for. Not only does my whole family fight over it, Minky blankets make amazing gifts. Not to mention Minky Couture’s incredible origin story that explains why each blanket feels like a tender hug. Honestly, I can’t recommend them enough.
